Preliminary courses

The department organises two preliminary courses each semester to help you to get started (in terms of content). You can find an overview of these courses here and in the first semester letter.

Math

The department offers a maths pre-course each semester. This is designed to consolidate the knowledge you already have from school and to prepare you for the material and pace of the maths lectures. To this end, student tutors will discuss some of the material from Maths 1 with you over a period of 2-3 weeks.

The preliminary course is also an excellent opportunity to get to know your fellow students. Many friendships have been formed here.

You can also download the script from the maths pre-course here. You can also find the videos here.

Computer science for life scientists

For Bio- and Medical Informatics students (variant B) in the Master's programme, there is a computer science pre-course, which is strongly recommended if you come from a non-subject-related degree programme such as biology or other life sciences and have little experience in computer science and programming (CLI, Java, Python, Git, LATEX). The preliminary course is held in English.
